Prayer for you to use to prepare for worship Compassionate God, since faith comes by hearing Your Word, help us to listen to the Scriptures with all attention, that they may criticize our faults, confirm our faith, and console our spirits, through Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh. Amen.
The bell calls us to worship…
Invocation P: Christ is risen! C: He is risen indeed! P: We begin in the name of the Triune God: C: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Now all the vault of heav’n resounds 732:1 In praise of love that still abounds: “Christ has triumphed! He is living!” Sing, choirs of angels, loud and clear! Repeat their song of glory here: “Christ has triumphed! Christ has triumphed!” Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
Confession of Sins
P: Beloved in the Lord: let us draw near with a true heart and confess our sins to God our Father, asking Him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to grant us forgiveness. C: Holy and merciful Father, I confess that I am by nature sinful and that I have disobeyed You in my thoughts, words, and actions. I have done what is evil and failed to do what is good. For this I deserve Your punishment both now and in eternity. But I am truly sorry for my sins, and trusting in my Savior Jesus Christ, I pray: Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner.
Eternal is the gift He brings, 732:2 Therefore our heart with rapture sings: “Christ has triumphed! He is living!” Now still He comes to give us life And by His presence stills all strife. “Christ has triumphed! He is living!” Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
Absolution P: God, our heavenly Father, has been merciful to us and has given His only Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. Therefore, as a called servant of Christ and by His authority, I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Oh, fill us, Lord, with dauntless love; 732:3 Set heart and will on things above That we conquer through Your triumph; Grant grace sufficient for life’s day That by our lives we truly say: “Christ has triumphed! He is living!” Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
Responsive Reading (from Romans 6 and selected Gospel verses)
P: What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? C: Now Jesus, going up to Jerusalem, took the twelve disciples aside on the road and said to them, “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and to the scribes; and they will condemn Him to death, and deliver Him to the Gentiles to mock and to scourge and to crucify. And the third day He will rise again.” (Matthew 20) P: Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. C: And He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. He spoke this word openly. (Mark 8) P: For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. For he who has died has been freed from sin. C: For He taught His disciples and said to them, “The Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of men, and they will kill Him. And after He is killed, He will rise the third day.” (Mark 9) P: Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him. C: Then He took the twelve aside and said to them, “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of Man will be accomplished. For He will be delivered to the Gentiles and will be mocked and insulted and spit upon. They will scourge Him and kill Him. And the third day He will rise again.” (Luke 18) P: Christ is risen! Prayer of the Day P: Almighty God, through Your only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ, You have overcome death and opened unto us the gate of everlasting life: We humbly beseech You, that, as You put in our minds good desires, so by Your continual help we may bring them to good effect; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns as one God, with You and the Holy Spirit, in glory everlasting.

Epistle Lesson – 1 Corinthians 15:20-28 20 But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. 23 But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ’s at His coming. 24 Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power. 25 For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet. 26 The last enemy that will be destroyed is death. 27 For “He has put all things under His feet.” But when He says “all things are put under Him,” it is evident that He who put all things under Him is excepted. 28 Now when all things are made subject to Him, then the Son Himself will also be subject to Him who put all things under Him, that God may be all in all.

Gospel Lesson – Mark 16:1-11 16 Now when the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, that they might come and anoint Him. 2 Very early in the morning, on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb when the sun had risen. 3 And they said among themselves, “Who will roll away the stone from the door of the tomb for us?” 4 But when they looked up, they saw that the stone had been rolled away—for it was very large. 5 And entering the tomb, they saw a young man clothed in a long white robe sitting on the right side; and they were alarmed. 6 But he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid Him. 7 But go, tell His disciples—and Peter—that He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him, as He said to you.” 8 So they went out quickly and fled from the tomb, for they trembled and were amazed. And they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid. 9 Now when He rose early on the first day of the week, He appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom He had cast seven demons. 10 She went and told those who had been with Him, as they mourned and wept. 11 And when they heard that He was alive and had been seen by her, they did not believe.

Sermon Text – Matthew 28: 5-7a 5 But the angel answered and said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. 6 He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. 7 And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead…”

CONFESSION OF FAITH – THE APOSTLES’ CREED ALL: I believe in God the Father almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, Born of the Virgin Mary; Suffered under Pontius Pilate, Was crucified, died, and was buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven And is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; From there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit; The Holy Christian Church, the communion of saints; The forgiveness of sins; The resurrection of the body; And the life everlasting. Amen.

Responsive Easter Prayer P: The Lord is risen! ALL: He is risen indeed! Hallelujah! P: We render thanks to You, O Lord Jesus Christ. C: As the exalted Prince of Life You gave Yourself for us unto death. P: You offered Yourself to Your heavenly Father as a propitiation for our sins, C: thereby delivering us from the power of death, the devil, and eternal damnation. P: To prove once and for all that You are the Prince of Life and the Lord over death, C: You rose from the dead, and brought forth righteousness, innocence and eternal life. P: Grant us grace, C: that by the working of Your Holy Spirit in us we may find great joy and comfort in Your death and resurrection. P: Let Your resurrection be to us an incentive to good works and fruits of righteousness, C: that we as your people may worship You in the beauty of holiness. P: Grant that we may daily die to sin. PROFESSOR BUCK RETIREMENT GIFT AND OBSERVANCE After 36 years of faithful service to the Lord and His Church, Professor Michael Buck shall be entering retirement. We will be marking this event with a special presentation during the Immanuel Lutheran College Commencement exercises on Saturday, May 19, 2012. This is a special opportunity to demonstrate our gratitude to the Lord for having given us this special gift in Prof. Buck who has humbly and so capably served us at ILC as well as the CLC for so many years. He has served faithfully in the classroom, but has also willingly volunteered to serve in so many other capacities: coach, athletic director, bus driver, volunteering to help with projects, in earlier years serving as a camp director. He has also taught many within our CLC the gifts of friendship, kindness and Christian love (as well as a very different way of singing our birthday wishes). It is indeed appropriate for us to show our appreciation to Professor Buck for all he has meant to us these many years. A special plaque will be presented along with a monetary gratuity made up of your contributions to this fund.
